Who We Are
APEX Rehabilitation Technologies is an R&D and production hub established within the Rehabilitation Engineering Laboratory, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology, at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Uganda. Located at MUST in Mbarara, APEX operates at the intersection of biomedical engineering, clinical rehabilitation, research, and advanced manufacturing, creating a collaborative environment where engineers, and healthcare professionals work together to develop meaningful rehabilitation solutions.
APEX was founded to bridge the gap between rehabilitation technology innovation and access to contextual and personalized assistive devices. While proven prosthetic, orthotic, and assistive technologies exist globally, many individuals continue to face barriers related to availability, affordability, customization, and geographical access. Through research, digital technologies, and local production, APEX seeks to strengthen existing rehabilitation systems by making high-quality solutions more accessible.
Although our commitment is to serve all individuals requiring rehabilitation technologies, our greatest focus is on children and young adults whose disabilities can limit participation in education, employment, social engagement, and other opportunities essential for personal growth. We believe that early and appropriate access to functional rehabilitation devices can restore independence, improve confidence, and enable individuals to participate in society actively.
By combining engineering innovation with clinical expertise, APEX develops context-appropriate, evidence-based, and patient-centered rehabilitation technologies. Our goal is not to replace established rehabilitation practice, but to advance and modernize it by improving the design, production, and delivery of solutions that promote mobility, inclusion, and equal opportunity for all. We're not just developing medical devices; we're building an integrated rehabilitation ecosystem.
This is APEX. This is the new era of rehabilitation medicine.
